YSA's Global Youth Service Network

The Global Youth Service Network, convened by YSA (Youth Service America), is a coalition of local, state, national, and global organizations committed to engaging children and youth to solve problems and lead communities through volunteering, community service, service-learning, national service, and civic engagement.

A GYSN member organization is any organization committed to increasing the number and diversity of young people serving in order to improve themselves and their communities in substantive ways.

National and Global Partners

National Partners are national organizations based in the United States, often with state or local chapters or affiliates, who promote GYSD, mobilize their members or chapters to participate, or support the work of GYSD through collaborative programming with YSA.

Global Partners are international organizations, including U.S. based organizations, often with offices or affiliates around the world. Global Partners promote GYSD through their networks, encourage participation in GYSD by their members or affiliates, and contribute their experience and connections to increase the scale and impact of GYSD.

Global Youth Service Day Lead Partners

Regional Partners are regional offices of international organizations, regional organizations or networks, or national organizations that work with organizational partners in their region of the world. Regional Partners promote and coordinate GYSD in their region, mobilizing partner organizations and Country Partners to engage at least 10,000 youth volunteers, engaging media and government officials, and coordinate project registration and reporting.

Country Partners serve as the lead convener and organizer of Global Youth Service Day in their country. Working with the Regional Partner for their region, Country Partners promote GYSD, engage partners and local project organizers, mobilize youth volunteers, engage lead high profile events, and engage local media and government officials.

GYSD Lead Agencies, supported with planning grants funded by State Farm, are United States-based state or local organizations that convene all GYSD partners in their city or state, coordinate projects that engage at least 600 youth volunteers, and engage local media and elected officials.

Sodexo Foundation Lead Organizers, supported with planning grants funded by Sodexo Foundation, work with partner organizations to engage at least 600 youth volunteers in learning about and addressing the issue of childhood hunger in their communities, beginning during Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week (November 10-17, 2012) and continuing through GYSD..

MLK Day Lead Organizers, supported with planning grants funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, engage at least 3,000 youth and adult volunteers on MLK Day and encourage volunteers to continue to serve. Many MLK Day Lead Organizers will also organize GYSD activities.

Local Organizers

Local Organizers are local NGOs, schools and universities, youth programs, government agencies, faith communities, families, and individuals around the world who plan, register, and implement a GYSD project.

There is no fee or monetary commitment to join the Global Youth Service Network.

Additionally, joining the Global Youth Service Network is not a commitment to add new work or programs or to fulfill new requirements. Rather, we ask only that you - and your chapters, affiliates, or members - use YSA as a resource and utilize our programs, grants, resources in order to strengthen your own programs.

The GYSN is an opportunity for your organization to participate - as your staff's time and interest allows - in learning from and finding opportunities for collaboration with YSA and other organizations who care about our common work of engaging young people and are also looking for new partners, ideas, and resources.
